How does Twitter still prevail in my community when Jaiku is so much more interactive?

    I don't know but same way here. My theory is that some 'big' name people use it as a microphone and regular people feel cool by being associated with that.

    That's probably just it... I hate the unadulterated broadcasting, though; it's void of any sense of "being connected," so I still don't understand how that works.

    Twitter to me has seemed more of a "expo" hall kinda place. Everyone is there, posting, talking etc disorganized.

    Services like Jaiku and Kwippy.com are the next evolution, focusing more on the conversational aspect rather than just a communication platform.

    People who like Twitter are happy with a superficial communication and will never switch.

    twitter factors in as part of my total social networking experience.. but is not the entire experience....

    People don't want to drag their friends to another service. That's why Twitter is so popular in spite of being less than spectacular.

    @CaffeineJunky @bishop I think that superficial is the name of the game for people who don't really understand community and conversation

    @GeekSpeaker making the move is a serious challenge; I need twitter to still keep tabs on what so many sluggish adopters are doing

    Twitter for me is all about the user-base. If all those same people were here, I'd use this for all that stuff instead, though the lack of direct messaging is a pain, and I'm not sure how portable the API is - lots more things seem to be developed for the twitter API at this point (even if Twitter itself doesn't run on its own API - which is why m.slandr.net is better than m.twitter.com !!) But I like the threaded stuff here, so I'll keep both going :)

    i think the main points have been said already, but one thing is that the fact that twitter is so simple might add to it's appeal (i.e. you need to use more things to get real value out of it).

    I get the feeling that the users of twitter are not there for conversations, they are they to get a "feel" for what is going on, by moniotring what people are saying in 140 characters. Which now that i have typed it, sounds kind of like where blogs were when Technorati and similar started up

    @gypsybandito Same here.

    Ultimately what I think this boils down to is Twitter = mySpace; Jaiku = faceBook;

    But that's just me. :)

    in case you missed this post by Joi Ito here is the opening paragraph (which has always summed up the differences for me quite nicely)

    "Looks like a bunch of people are trying out Jaiku after "tasting" co-presence with Twitter. To me, Jaiku, which existed before Twitter, is a bunch of Helsinki mobile jocks getting into the Web 2.0 of it all whereas Twitter is the Web 2.0 crowd "getting" co-presence."
